Song Confessional X Hotel Magdalena Present: An Artist Residency Program

Back to Events Page

Started by Austin musicians, Walker Lukens and Zac Catanzaro, Song Confessional was initially conceived as a music festival activation. Beginning this summer, Song Confessional’s story recording booth will live permanently at Hotel Magdalena.

Come on down to the booth 8 am – 8 pm to recount any type of story – old, new, long, short, coming of age, fish out of water – we’re all ears. Confessions will be reviewed by local songwriters, and select stories will be developed into original songs with the chance to be featured on the Song Confessional podcast. Selected confessors will receive their original song pressed into a 7″ record.

Now Open in the Valet Lobby | No appointment needed | Open 8 AM – 8 PM

We are thrilled to announce an ongoing artist residency program in conjunction with Song Confessional’s new home at Hotel Magdalena, coming this summer to the valet lobby.

Resident musicians will select one confession during their stay to transform into an original song. Come confess at the Song Confessional booth during an artist’s stay for a chance to be featured by them. Stay tuned for more upcoming artists in residency.

Upcoming Artists in Residency:

July 1-6: Ley Line

Ley Line is an Austin, Texas-based collective of four women songwriters who blend influences from North America, Europe, Latin America, and West Africa. Rooted in rhythm and transcending genres, they use different languages, close harmonies, and acoustic instrumentation to take listeners on a global musical journey.

August 9 -13: Fat Tony

Somewhere between DJ Screw and Bad Brains, De La Soul and Scritti Politti sits Houston’s native son, Fat Tony. A singular and experimentally-minded rap artist adept at both traditional regional styles and indie pop, hardcore thrash and melodic candy-painted bangers. He is punk in the platonic sense of the word: experimental and subversive, but also funny, whimsical, and virtuosic.
